There are some amazing resources in our community that sometimes don’t get tapped into because we don’t realize they’re even there. Here are some amazing practitioners and communities that offer great support to expecting and new families:
1. West End Mamas
WEM has a huge offering, both free and paid, that I can’t speak highly enough about. WEM itself is a hub completely focused on the entire childbearing process; their professionals provide fertility, prenatal and postnatal support. They offer prenatal yoga and FREE workshops like pelvic health for birth, postpartum pelvic health, meet the doula nights and practical tips for an easier pregnancy (Go to this link here, and hover over "Classes and Workshops" to filter the events, and "Free" is even an option -- protip: there's 12!) Get in there if you’re anywhere close.
2. Ashley Pickett
West of the GTA Ashley Pickett is fostering a community where empowered parents are shaping their family in gentle, mindful ways. Ashley offers breastfeeding and infant sleep clinics, babywearing drop-in groups, baby-led introduction to solid foods and nights where dads can go and hang out with her husband. You’ll catch me at her next workshop called “Understanding Infant Sleep: Anxiety-Free Sleep for the Whole Family” because, well, isn’t that what we all want more of?
3. All Things Mom/Mommy Connections – Brampton
Repping for all the moms who do it all is Aly, a mom of three, who actually does it all. I’m not even sure how many jobs she actually does, (school teacher, all things mom, personal website, mommy connections, etc.) but she does them all and she does them well. She’s so candid about her own journey before and through motherhood and the honesty is both refreshing and reassuring. She hosts meet-ups for other moms in the Brampton area, always centered around a fun activity (think swimming, dancing, infant massage, etc.). If you’re a soon-to-be new parent or a parent with a babe looking to build a community, Aly’s your girl.
4. Kinder Sleep – Andrea Strang
I met Andrea at an infant mental health workshop a few months ago and I’m still reflecting on some of what we touched on. If you’ve done some reading on sleep, gone to some workshops and still needing support to help transition your littles into a calmer, more regular, healthy sleep pattern then Andrea might be exactly who you’re looking for. No matter the age of your little who is struggling and no matter where you are, Andrea can provide either virtual or in-home support to identify what’s working, what’s not and what to change. Sleep is so vital to our overall mental health and wellbeing, and Andrea can help get your sleep (and your bed) back.
